Rights Respecting Day

We held our first Rights Respecting Day at Bowes and the children loved coming to school dressed in clothes that reflected their personality, culture or interests.

There were many wonderful outfits and it was lovely to see the children expressing their identities in this way. All children in school learnt that they have rights - as set out in the Convention on the Rights of the Child - and to distinguish between a 'want' and a 'need'. The day was also an opportunity to experience some of the Rights: Protection and Preservation of Identity (Article 8), Freedom of Expression (Article 13) and Respect for the views of the child (Article 12).
