Debating Competition

Last week, four of our Year 6 MPs took part in the Connect Education Trust annual Debating Competition with all schools in the Trust.
The overall theme was sustainability, and the Bowes team debated three separate motions in the quarter-final, semi-final, and in the final. In the final, Bowes and Hazelbury were debating the motion ‘Should people be made to change their lifestyle to protect the planet?’
The Bowes team put forward some strong arguments and won the debate and the competition overall. The judges commended them particularly on how well they worked as a team, listening to the arguments, responding, backing each other, and making good points. We are very proud of them for representing Bowes so well and for bringing home the trophy. As the debaters said, “It was a great experience and a fun way to make friends and have a polite argument!”
